Basic Carb Cleaning
LEVEL ONE SERVICE
Carbs are dismantled (CV units, down to the butterfly), then soaked in a special bath for several hours, sometimes up to 24 hours depending on condition. This removes external and internal surface residues to better prepare for the most effective ultrasonic cleaning.
Each carb and it’s components are then processed in our ultrasonic tanks. All components are then air dried and inspected in detail with a lighted, magnified scope. At this point the customer is advised if anything needs further attention or replacement. In many cases we have parts on hand to replace ones that might be damaged, or it can be left for you to deal with as you see fit. After this is decided, all components are loosely assembled, propery packaged and returned to the customer.
Some details of this process include, but are certainly not limited to :
- Examine atomizers for wear
- Check main jets for wear or damage, check sizes
- Inspect all float needles and seats for degradation or wear
- Inspect needle and setting clips for any issues, check sizes
- Detail examination of all internal passages, any issues corrected
- Detail examination of choke circuit (many problems occur here)
- Uniformly set all throttle cable and choke cable adjusters
NOTE : I recommend also having your petcocks disassembled, cleaned and rebuilt as well… if you are going to the time and expense of a carburetor rebuild or restoration. This is also a good time to check the condition of your fuel tank to make sure it is not going to run contaminants thru your fuel system post cleaning. We will ultrasonically clean your petcocks for free as part of the comprehensive and complete restoration service packages. Otherwise, it’s $10 for cleaning a pair, excluding parts. Parts costs are quoted at time of inspection as price can vary greatly depending on make, model and condition.
