Restoration options add upon all the processes described under both the ‘Basic’ and ‘Comprehensive Rebuild’ service listings. The goal of the restoration level service is to bring the function and appearance of your carbs back to new or better than new condition.
This extenuation of the ‘Comprehensive’ process removes any additional staining or corrosion that can still be left after standard cleaning processes. There is some discoloration or corrosion that simply can not be removed by conventional, non-corrosive cleaning methods.
All components are detail cleaned and then put through a second ultrasonic bath using a mix of non-corrosive solvents, followed by another clean and rinse cycle. There is no effective material change during this process. No acids are used, ever. In some cases, media blasting will be used to get the correct finish or prep for optional coatings. I use either soda, black walnut or glass, depending on the application. Regardless of media or solvent type, all parts are ultrasonically cleaned and inspected after media blasting to insure nothing is left behind.
Any external brass or steel parts can be polished and / or re-plated as required, to nearly any specification. Alloy cast components are finished to appear as new. Components that were originally polished, such as float bowls and tops on some units, are brought back to a high shine.This shine can be protected with the addition of our clear coating service as well. Some carb bodies and parts were clear coated or painted at the factory to help preserve or enhance their appearance. I can replicate most any of these finishes, as well as offering a finish that is more resistant to modern fuels.
I also offer powder coating solutions that include fuel resistant, anti-out-gassing, UV resistant and clear coating powders. Also, bodies can be re-plated to spec. All these finishes can be applied at a moderate additional cost.
For Amal units, I use one reputable and reliable bore and sleeve resource that can also make new slides. When this is required, turnaround times vary, but are usually just a moderate increase. The cost on this also varies widely, and can be on a case by case basis, determined after inspection.
NOTE : I recommend also having your petcocks disassembled, cleaned and rebuilt as well… if you are going to the time and expense of a carburetor rebuild or restoration. This is also a good time to check the condition of your fuel tank to make sure it is not going to run contaminants thru your fuel system post cleaning. We will ultrasonically clean your petcocks for free as part of the comprehensive and complete restoration service packages. Otherwise, it’s $10 for cleaning a pair, excluding parts. Parts costs are quoted at time of inspection as price can vary greatly depending on make, model and condition.
